ALCoder »
Why send your documents out and pay someone else to code them? With ALCoder™ auto coding software, the documents code themselves. ALCoder will allow you to save costs and generate revenue with a recently released version that allows for unlimited coding speeds and extracting up to 14 bibliographic fields of information.
Used by the US Department of Justice (USDOJ), the Executive Office for US Attorneys (EOUSA), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), amongst many other government agencies, as well as many law firms, corporations and service providers, ALCoder is the leading autocoding software owned and operated by you with no per-page or per-document costs! ALCoder is also available as an outsourced solution on a case by case basis.
ALCoder autocoding software generates bibliographic document coding and may replace the need for manual coding. Whether you're a small law firm or a high-volume service center, ALCoder can help you code your documents more efficiently. Have you received productions with no coding or metadata? Let ALCoder code your productions for you!
ALCoder can be plugged into existing OCR-only databases or databases with electronically stored information (ESI) or extracted text for one-click coding in LexisNexis Concordance and LAW, AD Summation or IPRO Software, or any other software review platform. Users can also bulk process batches of documents using industry standard formats and load files.
ALCoder Benefits
- Reduce coding time and costs by lowering the need for manual coding.
- Speed initial document reviews (quick coding).
- Fixed-priced software sized for your needs.
Three ALCoder variations are available:
ALCoder™ DB
Basic ALCoder solution for LexisNexis Concordance and AD Summation coding operations. Extracts up to 12 fields of bibliographic information with simple, one-click coding and populates new or already existing databases.
ALCoder™ Workstation
ALCoder Workstation is ideal for in-house processing and extracts 14 fields of information, while also allowing users to input names, organizations and keywords prior to processing, and "clean-up" of those names and organizations for conformity prior to export. The results can simply be imported or overlayed into the software of your choice.
ALCoder™ Premium Workstation
High-end solution for the extraction of 14 fields and perfect for high volume service centers and 'lights-out' operations. It also provides an API for integration with third-party applications.
Additional Information
-
Great Value
ALCoder™ autocoding offers a tremendous cost savings. You can own the software at an affordable, fixed cost. -
Ease of Use
ALCoder can be a simple, one-click application. It can also work directly with LexisNexis Concordance and LAW or AD Summation and automatically populates fields in existing databases. -
Comprehensiveness
ALCoder currently captures up to 14 bibliographic fields, including Document Dates, Author, Recipient, Names Mentioned, Organizations Mentioned, Dates Mentioned, Subject and Document Types. -
Document Score
ALCoder grades itself with a score of A-F, allowing users to prioritize which documents will need additional coding, i.e. handwritten notes. -
Speed
The newest version of ALCoder has unlimited speed and can code up to 1,000,000 pages in a day, while one person can code approximately 20 documents per hour. -
Flexibility
Easily add user-defined keywords/document types, custom dictionaries, organizations and unusual names. -
Confidentiality
You own the software and can perform autocoding in your office. -
Works with OCR and Electronic Discovery content
Popular Electronic Discovery processing does not automatically code Names, Dates and Organizations mentioned within the email bodies and electronic files. ALCoder is equally beneficial for OCR-based content or text extracted during Electronic Discovery. -
Export coded data to all popular litigation databases
ALCoder can be run in existing Concordance, LAW and Summation databases, but can also be run as its own application, and the results can be imported or overlayed into the software of your choice. -
Integrates with popular Electronic Discovery applications
ALCoder processes text extracted from LAW and IPRO, as well as many others.
Many believe that when processing electronic documents or electronically stored information (ESI) that the metadata (the data about the data) is accurate. In fact, that is often not the case. For example, if Attorney A copies a document from Attorney B, the metadata for the author will reflect Attorney B even though Attorney A has saved a copy. Another example of inaccurate metadata is in the case of data being backed up or stored on a network. If data gets moved from Server A to Server B, the metadata for the date will reflect the date of transfer, not the true date of creation.
Top 5 Reasons to Auto-code Electronic Data
- Supplement the Metadata
Metadata extracted during the electronic discovery process reflects the "profile" of the document, or the information about the document, not within the document, i.e. the true author, recipient, date, etc. - Auto-code Your Database
The sheer volume of data that is extracted during electronic discovery could require months, if not years, to code. Whether the coding is done domestically or off-shore, the cost is often prohibitive and valuable time is wasted. What could take weeks or months to manually code can be done in hours with ALCoder auto-coding software. - Code Attachments
During the electronic discovery process, attachments to emails are infrequently coded. ALCoder will extract the objective informaiton from not only emails, but the attachments as well. - Unify Key Information
Names and organizations are often spelled differently within documents. With ALCoder's authority lists, users can ensure that this information is entered into the appropriate database fields consistently, which will alllow end users to accurately locate those documents. - Near-perfect Coding
Because electronic data maintains the integrity of the formatting within a document, the auto-coding that takes place with ALCoder is near perfect. Scores are generated on an A-F basis for additional cleanup.
ALCoder™ autocoding software is a Microsoft Windows computer program designed for law firms, litigation service providers, corporations and government agencies. ALCoder software:
- provides a cost superior alternative to, or supplement for, manual coding
- versions include plug-in, GUI, DDE, command line, and COM library processing
- does not require complicated service agreements
Data Requirements
ALCoder works with ASCII data input, output and control files. By working with this lowest common denominator format, ALCoder easily integrates into any existing system.
Processing Speed
The newest version of ALCoder has unlimited processing speeds, and can code up to 1,000,000 pages per day, while a person can code approximately 20 documents per hour. The ALCoder Premium Workstation includes ODBC capabilities for SQL database access and an API for integration with third party applications.
(*Documents per hour derived from a five page per document average.)
System Requirements
ALCoder requires Windows XP, Server 2003 or later, and should run on Windows PCs that have at least 256 Megabytes of RAM and 1 Gigabyte of free disk space.
There is no database server, Unix, shell environment, component library, or other extraordinary support requirements. ALCoder uses a simple database for data handling during processing. SQL server access is possible via ODBC.
Document Types
ALCoder natively looks for approximately 17 basic document types. Users may define rules to identify additional document types.

How difficult is ALCoder™ to use?
ALCoder™ autocoding software was designed for simplicity. There’s only one installation file. Extraction can be regulated by a dongle, but it is no longer required. The version and license purchased will determine whether a dongle is necessary. In the event the customer has purchased multiple ALCoder licenses, the software can be installed on as many PCs as you see fit, but extraction only works when the software has been activated by Rosen Tech.
Pressing one button can run the simplest version of ALCoder™, while the developer’s tools include many features and devices. An understanding of MS Access helps for some processing, but is not required.
Does ALCoder™ provide OCR?
ALCoder™ autocoding software works with both OCR and electronic text, but does not create OCR text. ALCoder™ may also need a load file that describes the work to be done. Acceptable load files include OPT/LOG files, LFP files, and many variations of CSV files.
